Trends in web design

Responsive design

With the proliferation of web-connected devices over the last decade, digital design has had to adapt beyond the safe certainties of the past. It used to be the case that nearly all users viewed websites on a computer monitor – now, sites can be viewed on mobiles, tablets, netbooks, laptops, TVs and more. This has inspired the trend of responsive design, whereby the layout of a site adjusts itself according to the size of the screen. This is great for relatively simple sites, but more complex sites may still require a platform-specific version to maintain really excellent usability.

Understanding HTML5 and CSS3

Our digital designers have a strong understanding of front-end web technologies, including the possibilities offered by HTML5 and CSS3. This enables them to incorporate design elements that can be achieved through code, thereby improving accessibility and lightening the load on servers and bandwidth.

Texture

As a reaction to touchscreen technology, digital design is becoming increasingly textural. This trend started in app design, where elements of an interface are styled with texture to make them appear tactile and touchable. It is a part of a wider design trend whereby visual elements are designed to look like what they do; for example, a switch selector that looks just like a switch.
